GILLIAN KELLY COUNSELLING

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, "Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner." I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”

― Carl R. Rogers, A Way of Being

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Strathclyde.

I also have additional training in working with children and young people and am experienced in play therapy. I also have a PDA in Addictions Counselling and am trained in Solution Focused brief therapy.

Session Info

Session Cost

£50 for 50 minute session

I am available for telephone, zoom or face-to-face sessions.

For face to face sessions I am located in

The Village Centre, 12 Maxwell Dr, East Kilbride, Glasgow G74 4HG

When you come for your first session, we will spend time exploring what you would like to gain from counselling and to see if we are a good match to work together. From there we can arrange more sessions or you may need some time to think about this.
The aim of Person Centred Counselling and the way in which I work is to help build a trusting relationship in order for you to explore the issues that are concerning you. It is not for me to give you advice or tell you what to do. The Person Centred Approach believes that the client has the resources and ability to become more aware and make changes in their life. I aim to provide a warm and open space for you to work at your own pace.
Counselling can be both a rewarding and challenging process, which tends to work best with regular attendance and commitment. You may not be sure how many sessions you might need or if counselling is for you. My approach is to work very much collaboratively and in partnership with clients both in terms of planning and content of sessions. Our work together maybe be long-term or short-term and this might become more apparent during therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

You may never have experienced counselling before, so it is understandable that you would have questions. Hopefully some of the questions and answers listed below help with any queries or concerns you have.

  • What does a counsellor do?

All counsellors will have their own unique way of working, influenced by the modality that they have studied in, and by their own personal traits.

In the person-centred way of working the counsellor aims to provide empathy, acceptance, and genuineness in order for the individual to feel safe and secure to share and work through issues that they are facing.

Rather than giving advice, a counsellor will often help an individual to notice and value their own thoughts and desires by recognising the individual as the expert on themselves and their experiences. Some of the benefits of person centred counselling include:

Making peace or gain understanding of the past, so that you can start living in the present

Strengthening your self-esteem and self worth

Improved relationships with yourself and others

Better decision and choice making abilities regarding your life.

  • Will counselling work for me?

There is no reason why counselling cannot help you experience positive change in your life.

Person-centred therapy encourages a focus on each individual to find what works for them. In the counselling setting you will be able to explore what you find helpful and unhelpful about the therapy.

A large element of the outcome of counselling depends on the individual's willingness to engage with their issues and problems. If you enter counselling with an expectation of discovering something helpful, you are far more likely to do so.
